More Information
What is an automatic belay?
- Generally, in recreational climbing there are two people involved in a climb - the climber and the person who provides the safety for the climber. The second person would normally secure and control the descent of the climber, using a rope-braking device called a belay. This second person is normally referred to as the 'belayer'.
- Our Mont Blanc Climbing Wall uses automatic belays called Redpoint ™ Descenders, which effectively remove the need for a human belayer for every climber.
- The Redpoint ™ Descenders use high strength webbing and steel karabiners to secure each climber, taking up the slack as they climb the wall. The units have an internal braking system that automatically controls the rate of descent, when a climber falls or chooses to abseil down from the wall.
- The Redpoint ™ Descenders have been certified safe for use outdoors and in areas near salt water.
- The Redpoint ™ Descenders are professionally built by a company with over 110 years of experience in providing safety solutions.
